I had the wonderful pleasure to talk with Victoria over email and one of the questions I asked her was: what some of your favorite ya books?
She gave me a long list, and I was surprised that I had read some of them already! But five of them I hadn’t so I went out and got the ones I hadn’t read and started working on this post.
First, I would like to say that Victoria McCombs is a wonderful and kind woman and a beautiful writer. All of the books I have read by her have been five stars and I highly recommend taking a look at some of her work <3
Book 1
Caraval by Stephine Garber

Remember it’s only a game…
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was unexpected.
I had heard a few things about this trilogy but was quite hesitant to start it, not sure that it was my cup of tea. But I was wrong. This book is everything. Romance, magic, rogues, puzzles, and impossible things. We follow scarlet coughs Crimson coughs and her journey to Caraval which is a magical carnival run by a man named Legend. I have never read a setting so vibrant and real. I felt like I was there with her, experiencing everything she was.
I cannot wait to dive into the next book!
Book 2
A House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

Once there were twelve of us.
⭐⭐⭐⭐.75
This book was amazing; I have had it on my want to read list for a while.
I mean a dark, gothic fantasy retelling of the twelve dancing princesses? How amazing is that! I wasn’t expecting the ending but at the same time I kinda was?
it was very good and the way that the love interest talks to our FMC had my heart melting
Book 3
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was terrified when I saw this on Victoria’s list.
Not because it is a big book but because of all the hype around it. for a few years I had been seeing all sorts of people rave about Six of Crows. Going on and on about how good it was, how perfect the found family is. And I finally took the dive.
It lived up to the hype, to say the least.
Let's take a moment for Kaz Brekker, because he needs a moment for himself.
*pauses while everyone takes a moment to appreciate that such an amazing character was written *
Yes, I became a little obsessed I mean this quote:
“My ghost will not associate with your ghost.”
I love; in fact, I loved it so much I instantly went out to get the second one lol. But in all honesty the plot was immaculate, the way the world was run was interesting. And I loved the POV switches. Which isn’t something I normally adore.
goes to read book 2
Book 4
Little Thieves by Margaret Owen

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful, kind princess, and her wicked maid.
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Coming off of a Six of Crows high I was thirsting for something amazing, something different and interesting.
Which was everything our FMC – Vanja was. she was a maid, goddaughter of Fortune and Death who was posing as a princess. And had to pay off a debt and give back all she took.
The plot was amazing and at the one third marker I was very confused because I thought that was going to be the end of the book but it wasn’t. I admit it, I was half wrong. I got the over all ending right, but the twist was very good.
Book 5
Fable by Adrienne Young

Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐.75
This book was one I was craving.
I haven’t read a good ship/pirate book in a while and this book was accurate and so very entertaining. Though the cliffhanger we get left on is just cruel.
I quite liked the fact that at the end we got to see the ship. I don’t do spoilers but if you read it you will know what ship I am talking about. Fable was such a good character and had a fighter heart which I really liked but she was also kind and compassionate which is hard to do in a book.
Thank you all so much for reading! I had a wonderful time doing this post and thank you Victoria for supplying the book recommendations <3 they were amazing!!
Don’t forget to sing with the windows down,
K. Florence <3
